About Mocha and English <snip from Mocha's detailed info>

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I guess my "good" life in Noth American is indeed helped by the language skill. It is a very helpful skill here.

You don't want to know my TOFEL score before I went to Europe. 'coz it really really sucks. But what I'd like to share w/ you as a friend is that if I can speak English like I do today (actually it took about 1 and a half year to get to the level), you can do it too and for sure, any maybe even better.

I can tell you what it takes, it takes a person not to hear or speak (writing is okay) Chinese for one and a half year. It was natural to me back then because I didn't know anybody that I could talk in Chinese and there's no Chinese media presence at all...

Actually it's not totally true, I started to make Chinese friends after about 8 months, but I didn't get to hang out w/ them very often...

Again, I know our traditions, and that is people like to think independently and not too easily trust to believe what the other suggest or comment, and that's great. You can challenge me here. Keep in mind that I'm just telling a true story about Mocha, myself.... ;)更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • Where r u? I don't think u told us ur story already, please give more details. Are there any places in North America where there are no Chinese? I don't think so.
      • click
        • Good. I like it.
      • It's difficult to find a place in North America where there are no Chinese. However, I do know someone in North America doesn't speak Chinese in her daily life.
"I started to make Chinese friends after about 8 months, but I didn't get to hang out w/ them very often."

        That's the point.
        • I read a fiction about KGB secret agents training way back, and it said if the trainee started to speak English in his dream, then he's got it. 'coz he started to "think" in English.
So that's the secret. "think" in English. if you swtich all the way back to Chinese in afterhours. it's not as effective. but nobody tried or said that it wouldn't work either.

I have another story. that's the training process of a parrot. The "tongue" of it is rolled routinely. "roll" your tongue as much as possible when you're doing nothing, and open your mouth big whenever your try to speak english... that's my stuff...

disclaim again: may not be the best way or the only way. just sharing. there're people who may speak even better. but people are not sharing either...
          • Thanks for sharing. I am "rolling" my tongue now...
            • :)
          • Once I suspect that you are mssg, but seems your English is better. Are you macho? I am not sure.
            • don't have a "macho" nick on rolian nor haven met any rolians off-line.
    • what kind of a "good" life are u enjoying in North America? tell us more please, let us envy u something other than ur "good" English. this is a perfect example that illustrates the above word "big deal".
      • challenge 1. I'm here to make friends and get some understanding from rolians who's been wondering what the hell I've been doing writing english most of the time.
I'm not here to be a public figure.

So I tell someone about my job and income, and then someone says he knows someone else who makes not less maybe more w/o speaking good english. So the idea of language skills may be dismissed. And then I say, but I feel more comfortable at the job or on the street, and then that someone says who cares...

Well it's about English language, and of course one of the many ways to gain that skill... that's all.

        Not about "good life"... ;)
        • fair enough, I am not ur enemy yet, as I can see here u r already a hot stuff INDEED. public figure is only matter of time, u r getting there hon.
          • Good for me, sweetie. :)
    • Great to have you here. wonderful day, isn't it?
      • ** taking a look outside of the window ** indeed, nice day. It's been some winter this year. But I don't mind a lower temperature if it gets me to see some sun shining. You too~~ ^_*
        • love your self-introduction. please write more whatever you'd like. thanks.
