You have been sitting in the meeting room for a whole. At 5Pm, you and other attendees are still far away from completing the schedule. However, it is Friday. The chairperson may sunddenly say: "Let's call it the day. We are going to continue our schedule the same time next week." In some sense, "call it the day" means winding up a day's work.

Another saying is "make the day". If some people brings a big excitement for us, we may say "you have made the day". Consider the following scenario: My programm does not function properly, but I could not figure out why and how. My co-worker stopped by and chatted with me for a while. His words suddenly hit on my nerve and I understand the problem in my code. To show my appreciation, I may say "Pal, you make the day."
