Is King of the Hill TV show racist to Chinese and Hindus?

My friend is a Chinese Canadian. She tells me that she gets very offended whenever she watches the American TV show, [b]King of the Hill [/b]. It portrays the Chinese family that lives next door to Hank Hill as being very primitive, uneducated, and loud talking outcasts of society who are constantly struggling to be accepted by everyone, ranging from their neighbours, to a private golf club.

[b]Do other Chinese Canadians think King of the Hill is racist? [/b]I myself thought it was degrading to the Hindu community for its portrayal of an Indian grocery clerk.

    • Let me share with you some of my thoughts. 1. It's in Texas, if any places in the planet USA is biased, it's Texas (and some of the other Southern states, which can be worse) -ztech(technozoom); 2004-7-4 {1007} (#1788732@0)
      2. USA is no longer a young vibrant country. It has over 200 years of history now, the Constitution is old. The younger countries include P.R.C (which is less than 60 years old), Norway which is also less than 60 years old. :)

      3. Canada has about the same length of history and roots as USA. But its Constitution is only about 30-ish years old. It's very new. Canada is where the future is! And you can feel, smell, taste and see it!

      4. I would NOT necessarily call these racism. Think about, how countrymen were portraited in the minds of city folks in China a decade back. The pictures could be worse than those in Kind of the Hill.

      5. I watched King of Hills some times back. Loud *is* a sympton of many of us. As long as there's some truth to it, I would call it humor. So what, we're loud.

      6. Every country has jokes about every other country. Everyone has jokes about everyone else. It's the way it is. Tell your friend to cheer up, and hopefully she does. :)
