To be honest, Terry is a smart guy, but he's a terrible, terrible English teacher - he doesn't know how to teach at all.

I attended his class with desire to improve something in English, but I got nothing, and waisted my time and money, and lost confidence. He doesn't have any skill to teach and motivate students, just shouts at students instead.
We're supposed to learn English culture, a part of his class, but he doesn't know any. He repeated and repeated his experience of selling hydro power and telemarket during his whole 8 week class, so that we almost fell into sleep.
And the most important thing is that one third of his pronunciation mothed is wrong compared to official Canadian and American pronunciation books and videos (it's easy to borrow in TPL), and he makes it in a very difficult prononcing way.
Now I spent my money and quality time to learn English from a LICENSED canadian teacher. I'll never ever learn English from an unlicensed, unskilled Chinglish teacher.

Can you not believe other people can do things that you cannot do yet? I believe you're smart too. It's that you don't believe and you don't try hard. If you can leave your phone number, we find out how to achieve that. I have a lot of experiences in overcoming typical Chinese pronounication problems and the Canadian ways of speaking.

While you guys seem to think making your talk clear is your next step to take, I am more focused on making my pronouciation more Canadian day by day. Of course, there is no end to improving English communication skills. It takes a whole lifetime. And that's true for learning anything perfect.

I have met many people who have lived in North America for over 10 years, and still speaking the same kind of Chiglish (Chinese English). In fact, only perhaps 5% of people can really change their pronounication habit. People who can will do it in the first five years, and those who can't will never be able to do it. I used the word habit because I know how hugely different it is to make each and every English sound than using our Chinese speaking habit, even for words as simple as "it is". Unfortunately, most of our Chinese people have not come to realize that, and thinking they are doing just fine.

That's why so many people can not speak Shanghainese after living there for 40 or 50 years. For me, I like new things, I like changes. I may never be able to sound like a native speaker. I believe I will sound more like them over time --- a long period of time. :-)

I have to agree to what you said, becaues I don't have any experience with his course. I only listened to his seminars and some of his seminar recordings. I feel he has really broken it through in his own way, but perhaps it doesn't work for other people. I think you don't have to spend money on English. Language is a natural skills, you can fly on your own.

Jerry's seminars and some of his seminar recordings are definitely good, and this is the reason I attend his class. But why you didn't attend? - Action is more than speech!
If you are never in Jerry's class, you're never supposed to talk in this TIP. Even thought he's your idol, why don't you just go to his class and spend 8 week terrible time and come back to talk?
In my company, here are many Whites, canada-born Asians, compared to them, Jerry is just a young average Changlish guy. - we don't have to see him as an idol the way you do.

I don't have to and I will not. I believe I myself can already speak as good as him. It's that I just don't understand why you have to spend money on any class. I watched Jerry's video clip the other day. His accent was impressive. I was always wondering how his class would be like. But I did not intend to attend his class because I do not think that is the right way to learn English. And I feel like he benefits more from his customer service experience than his techniques. So the point here is to speak as much as possible to local people is the best way to learn oral English. But oral English is not enough. We also need written English. We need to enlarge our vocabulary. We do not want to be an illiterate here. So learning English is no different than learning Chinese. What I am doing now is reading English newpapers,magazines and all kinds of books; watching TV for about 1 hour and a half everyday. Speaking, I have to speak English to make a living here. It seems people can understand me and I usually have no problem understanding them, either.

Now i'm not so ambitious, and restrict my E-learning goal to what makes my job and life better. I mean, whatever I learn from teacher, TV, book..., in a period, can make myself more competent for higher-rate job, and get better life, that proves my current learning is successful, and I start to move on to next step and goal.
