He told me, once he landed the states, he closed the English subtitles immediately, in order to improve listening comprehension. And he suggested me to do that too. I do agree it's a good method to force yourself melt into the situation and focuse, or guess what's going on. I had the experience about paying too much attention to English subtitles when I was watching the English channel back home. I found it's hard to improve listening. Try to guess, and keep asking, which I think can be helpful.
