Long before) instruments were solely associated (with) creating music,
(they) played an essential role in many ceremonies, (including) both religious and pagan.

Wrong (Run on): I bought a DC yesterday, I love it very much.
Correct: I bought a DC yesterday, and I love it very much.
Also correct: I love the DC that I bought yesterday very much.
Still correct: I bought a DC yesterday;(分号) I love it very much.
Grammatically acceptable:
I bought a DC yesterday, loving it very much.

(Long before) instruments were solely associated (with) creating music, (they) played an essential role in many ceremonies, (including) both religious and pagan.
    A. Long before
    B. with
    C. they
    D.including

Which one is wrong and why?
    • a
      • not correct
      • before) instruments were solely associated (with) creating music, (they) played an essential role in many ceremonies, (including) both religious and pagan.
        • hand hand.
      • The answer is D. I do not know why? Any one can explain?
    • D
      • correct. but why?
      • ", which included", 或 "including" (without , )
        • I got it , thanks a lot.
          • u r welcome

      • DONT THINK SO, if 'before' is conjunctive, there is nothing wrong to use an adverb "long" before 'before', AND your example is ok but misleading, you talk about bin lie ju (using semicolon to separate...) , here 'before...' is a clause already,
my best analysis is that the error is at "they", simply a 'guo qu wan cheng shi' should be used---they had...
        • Yes, I think you are right. The 'long before' here might not be used as a whole phase, but as noun "long " + conj " before ", so the first half sentence has already been a clause.
    • C is wrong. It should be " they had". good luck!
      • Agreed! 1)Disease Starts Long Before You Have Symptoms. 2)Moore's law loses its credibility long before we reach absolute physical limits.
    • D, should be "such as".
该句子并没有列举ceremony A或ceremony B 然后再inluding “ceremony C”来表示还有更多的ceremony D or more. 此处的both religious and pagan只是形容词短语做补语来说明ceremony性质,所以including就多余了。long before一点也不怪(它引导时间状语从句),they更是不能丢(因为它是主句的主语,代instruments),with当然改不得(associate with是动词短语,犹如connect with一样)
    • 一点意见:including both religious and pagan应该是修饰they吧,而非ceremonies。
      I study English.(泛泛而谈,可以理解为天天在学)
      I studied English.(泛泛而谈,可以理解为说此话之前的任何时间学过)
      I will study English.(泛泛而谈,可以理解为说此话之后的任何时间会学习)
I am studying English right now.(不再泛泛而谈了,现在就在学)
I studied English for a long time before I studied French.(泛泛而谈,指我以前学过英语和法语。)
I had studied English for quite some time before I began to study French two years ago.(不再泛泛而谈了,特别强调两个动词(study, begin)之间的关系,即过去的过去)
      顺便说一下,religious and pagan绝对不是用来修饰they的,因为they代的是“乐器”。
根据题意,我们需要做的是判断这里面是哪个词用错了,即long before(连词), with(介词), they(代词), 还是including(介词)用错了。
Long before instruments were solely associated with creating music, they (had) played an essential role in many ceremonies, both religious and pagan.
Long before instruments were solely associated with creating music, they (had) played an essential role in both religious and pagan ceremonies which, of course, included Christian wedding ceremony!
所以, 应为“,including both religious and pagan ones." 或 ”,both religios and pagan" 作为后置定语。
