Jabber's English Note

jabber(jabber)
I am not a Church goer. Nonetheless, I found we have better know the following words:

1) Episcopal
2) Presbyterian
3) Methodist
4) Baptist
5) Quaker
6) Protestant

I think most people know 4). Honestly speaking, I just know these words represent different schools in christanity. I have absolutely no ideas about the relationship among them. But I know how to pronounciate these words (Episcopal is difficult to remember). Having these things enough, I found it can help me a lot in watching TV or movie. For instance, the church in the movie "Body Guard" is Presbyterian.

It is very frustrating for us adults to learn English. If we don't some words, or if we don't know some context, we may get stuck immediately.

        Once an American friend give me directions like this: "Take Rte 50, get off at exit 10, then make a right, you will be on XYZ Dr. Drive for about 3 miles, you will see a Presbyterian church. Then, you are almost there." For me, it is enough to understand such a short description.

        After that "country under God" thing, a scholar in my area transalted an article about the religions in USA and published in a very popular Chinese paper. I read it carefully but I got completely confused. The point I want to make in my note is that people should try to recognize these words. It is beyond my knowledge and ability to discuss such serious topics.
