本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛1。在这个对话中，你的脑子明显比老墨同事要动的快，听得出你是一个很聪明的女孩。你在对话中处于领导地位，每一个新的话题是由你先提出来。老墨很温和，回应的很有水平，使得谈话carry on，愉快又富有内容.

2.老墨强过你的是他的listening skill. 这个技巧非常重要。凡是你的观点，他首先是echo你，对你的观点表示同意或理解，先创造一团和气，还扩展了你的观点，给你补充一些信息。然后他也非常温和地表达了他的观点，可惜他思路不是很清晰。要不然是个良好的conversation对象。

3。你可以试着加强这两个方面：脑子里想好再讲，讲划尽量用完整的句子，不要怕冷场空白停顿。用filler的原因是嘴巴比脑子动得快，因此心里慌张。完整的句子才能表达完整的思想，这个良好习惯很重要。

4. 另外，向老墨学校他的listening skills，加强echo，尽量不要在别人一说完你就先说no，学校paraphrase 别人说话的内容，再表达意见。在表达了自己的意见后要学会 defend your statement. 练习扩充你的观点。"The reason why I say so is a....b...c....," or " I think so because... What do you think?". 通常害怕自己没话接是因为我们没有集中注意力聆听对方在说什么，而是要命地占用了脑子紧张地琢磨下一句我该说点啥。如果我们注意倾听，不用担心，听完了就自然知道要讲啥了。要是你的暂时跟不上，就让它冷场几秒钟，你宁可想好了在开口。更多精彩文章及讨论，请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

You seem to have a little problem pronouncing the "er" sound, for instance "where, here, under, retire, firm, factor, voter" . I think it is probably due to the position of your tongue. The other issue is to make sure you sound out the whole word, such as "boomers, voters, counting", instead of rushing it. You could also pay some attention to the word "internaTIONal". Just my two cents.

Again, thank you for putting yourself on the spot. I have come across so many talented Chinese whose careers are limited because of the language barrier. It is really a shame. If only their English were as good as yours...

Being directional seems mostly a male strength. It is quite rare to hear a lady carry such directional capacity with quite good grace. I actually hope you can keep this strength, refine it and bring it to best effect. It can be a wonderful signature style of yours if handled with care. Keep it up!
