1. She apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a light standard.

I didn't understand "struck a light standard" ,and the foreigner told me it means " triffic light" .

2.Today's temperature is forecast to reach a high of 6 C, smashing the record of 3.3C set in 1963.

I thought "forecast" is 拼写错误（typot ?). It should be "forecasted". she could not explain it clearly for me ,but insisted it is right. Later, I learn myself by looking up the dictionary. Noing wrong with the newspaper.
