I was encountering the same frustration. I failed 1 interview, because their boss thinks my communication skills are not good enough. He told me " We have to deal with different customers with different accents. So we need someone with excellent communication skills. A good command of English is a must. Therefore, we are unable to give you this offer"

I don't think we can improve the communication skill in short time. The longer I stayed here the more I feel I need to improve. There is something called culture backgroud. We are not been raised here. We can't truly understand it only from the books. The first thing is improve the interview skill. After you get the job then improve the commmunication skill day after day. Personal opinion only. Good luck.

Native speakers' English communication skills are superior. They are too talkative and with rich vacabularies. On the other hand, we have advantages as well in both grammar and spelling. But for job interview, speaking English is largely emphasized.

I do not know whether employer's rejection of poor communication skill is just an excuse or it is a precise reason. As we have local education, we are comfortable to communicate with native speakers. Some people actually in the customer service positions have very thick accent and difficult to understand, but they are hired. When I contacted my bank via telephone banking, I was quite frustrated about their services. So I think there should be another reason for rejection.
