枫下沙龙 / 梦想天空 / You definitely scared my socks off, Mr. Dumb. What do you mean precisely by " Romanticism and Realism in the literary world both were gone"? Gone? Where/when/how were they gone?

how could it be scary? from concert hall to book reading, how often do you hear artists/poets claim themselves as part of Romanticism or Realism? remember we live in the age of Kanye West and Jay Z?

I got even more scary after you mentioned West. You forgot his speeches at 2016 MTV Video Music Awards?

He addressed gun violence in Chicago, which to me was a pretty realistic matter. Furthermore, he shared with us his role models, and your idol Mr. Jobs is one of them.

being realistic (or romantic) does not necessarily make someone part of Realism ( or Romanticism), otherwise Homer could have stood up contending for thenoble title of the maestro of Realism. the two terms have specific reference to specific literary movements occured in specific historical moments.

I understand that Romantism and Realism are two historical literary terms specifying particular historical moments and movements, which might be gone physically, yet still hanging around spiritually
?

To me, the interpretation of West toward the world is Romantic and Realistic, so that West may not be physically in Romanticism and Realism, yet he is indeed spiritually with them?

For that matter, could we agree that Romanticism and Realism are not gone, yet inherited/transformed/transcended one way or the other?

yes, of course we can agree that the romantic spirit or the realist way of representing the world have always been there and they will continue to be there.

I start to explore Eliot and the Waste Land that you mentioned yesterday. I'm wondering if there is any literary connection between him and Pound? Otherwise, seems quite difficult to understand why you mentioned him at that RIGHT time?

What was between Eliot and Pound has been cheered as "the most famous friendship and collaboration in twentieth-century literature". There are numerous books and essays on this subject.

Eliot actually dedicated The Waste Land to "the better crafsman", which is no other than Pound the poet.

Eliot is the admirer of Pound then? Any possibilities that Eliot is somehow associated with Nazi as well, since he is such a big fan of Pound?

Pound was a few years older. Eliot is known for being anti-Semitic.

It is not an uncommon fact that we are frequently obliged (pleasantly or unpleasantly) to sever the work of a thinker/poet from his ideology, or even his affiliation with certain ideology.

I suppose there might be no "politically correct" back then? If Eliot was one of the candidates in this century, it's hard to believe that he would be the one to win?

Shall we say that the golden age of literature has been gone like forever, cause at the current stage, literature seems incapable to stand on its own without being willingly or unwillingly affiliated with whatever beyond literature?

Literature as we knew of was long gone. And it is not coming back, for time, in human terms, is but a one way street. The same applies to music in the name of Beethoven and Vivaldi.

there are people dispute whether Eliot the Imagist eventually outgrew Imagism and pushed it into the Hall of Fame of modern poetry.

To me, Mr. Jobs is an icon of the perfect combination of both Romanticism and Realism. I just can't help myself getting into the fact that West is actually both Romantic and Realistic as well in music, in pop culture and in philosophy.
