语言是工具,好不好得看用在什么环境。从小在这儿长大的,日常用语应该是强过大部分第一代移民的,不过在特定语境下也未必如此。在职场,只要有意识去学,工作用英语达到和本地人类似水准不是难事。难的是工作外的社交场合,那谈论的话题就多了,语言背后的文化不同,一般就很难聊得深。

Learning to use “small words” correctly can make a big difference. For example,usually people say “when it comes to something” (ie not “goes to something”), also, it’s “on” news not “in” news... Paying attention to the use of small words can go a long way, but its importance often underestimated. News channels on TV/radio are excellent source of learning authentic English. Once you understand 100% of what they say on TV/radio, you are half way towards speaking as fluently as they do.

也看刚学话时接触时间最长的老师口音,不可忽视老师及朋友的口音影响......遇上个印巴移民的就嘿嘿了,所以这里的英文课老师欧裔白人居多是有道理的,娃6岁来时英文从零开始学,是意裔的教,后来是德裔...

记得娃来时的中文已能读寓言图书了,学英文最痛苦的可能不是单词/作文,而是思维的切换,经历过说话有点颠三倒四的过程,直到说梦话是英文后才算真正转换为英文思维...

应该不只是你这么想吧?语言学习能力和年龄是正好成反比,记得我刚去广东那时也是,孩子才3岁,刚接过来,送幼儿园2个月就比我在广东2年说得好。
