very good question, dictionary says : nuts - A crazy or eccentric person // jerk - A foolish, rude, or contemptible person. // to me, (14+)they are very 'close', hehe

I think there are some difference, "nut" is close to neutral, a guy who is a bittle bit dumb and strange, "jerk" is very negative
