You are not comparing in a fair manner. Some people do make a lot of money in Canada without speaking good English, but not so many people can do that. The majority of us have to make a good living from hard work.English is definitely one of the most important skills for most immigrants. I do agree you should rely on your own hard work to improve your spoken English. However, some people are not seeing the right method to make significant improvement. For those people, perhaps going to a training class would help them. That being said, no method works for everyone.
