I don't know why people like to bring such big burden with themselves, which can only cause inconvenience or even trouble, to travel such a long way.If you were Canadian, you would sell all these heavy stuff before departure and buy new appliances in new place.
What you apparently need is only the basic things for your new home before you REALLY SETTLE DOWN.
IMHO, rich people don't need to think of such things but simply dump them and buy new stuff, but it cannot save money for not-so-rich people either, especially before you get familiar with new place and your driving license!

Color TV set, 300-500$; Microwave oven, 100-200$(you'll find its only usage is to heat the leftover food); and this model of washing machine may cost US$300, but you cannot make big use of it, especially when you don't have enough time. Most house and apartment have laundry room, which offer the tenants coin-operated washing machine and dryer.

my friend once asked me if it's safe and healthy to share washing machine and dryer with neighbors. I cannot see what's wrong with it, people here have been living in this way and no problem has been found yet.
