wonder what the difference between customer and client is. People seem to be inclined to use client, rather other customer, esp in the formal publications or within the areas of my knowledge.

In my company-supplier, client is a project owner before the contract signed with you. But customer is a project owner who signed the contract with you.

Customer是真正的客户，顾客的意思，强调的是经济利益那个人（或那群人）会付钱给你。而Client含有dependent,follower的意思，中文有时翻译成委托人，强调的是代理、授权和委托的关系。比如律师说到的客户，指的是他有权代表，而不只是经济关系。在网络词汇里，Client对应Server而言也是一种代表的关系。
