on the phone, usually, you pick up the phone and say "this is ...., how may I help you?" in office, or just hello, who am I speaking with?, at home; rarely you will ask first 对方要找谁?, kind of different with in China...

internal is fine, otherwise, you never want to speak to your customer with just "YES???", kind of rude on the phone.

我在公司也遇到过一次,头儿找别人打到我这来了,我想问你想找谁,也是没说好,倒底该怎么说比较地道, 也比较随意, 看了半天也没看出哪个是较好的答案.

usually you just answer with "Ross speaking?" if yo are ross, then the conversation starts. you never want to start with "whom would you like to speak with?" right after you pick up the phone.

Whenever I pick up the phone, I speak my name first, and then ask how can I help him/her.....He/she will tell me whom he/she wants to talk with etc....
