a lot of people say hello that way here, it is more flexible than "how are you doing", you can either say "I am ok, yourself?" or you can start small talk if you do have something to share

千万别,要看context,这两句都可以用来打招呼,跟how things going, how are things going with you类似,都是一般的打招呼。回答个"great, how u doing"就行了。
