It really depends on what kind of meeting you have. The principle is: do not let your leaving put the meeting into pause. Drawing full attention to your humour at risk is unecessary.

To leave a meeting early,you do need to inform the faciliator in advance if you have a sound reason. When you leave, make sure you make minimum impact, either by saying nothing and quietly leave or a very brief explanation. It is proper courtesy to let people know before the meeting starts.
