You are very likely right. 我曾自诩自己的口语好, ACCENT好。但是这个ACCENT给了别人ILLUSION。他们被我的口音迷惑了，ASSUME I AM BETTER THAN I ACTUALLY AM。有个人说我的英语是PSEUDO。我才茅塞顿开。同样推理。

当然了。我是2001来北美的。我敢说在同一时间来的人里我的口语不是第一，也得是第二。但这不是目的。目的是和本地人交流。我们的英语永远也赶不上本地人。我倡导简单明了，有理有据，低调有容。

”不厚道“只是用来形容人品的，而“不地道”既可以形容人品也可以形容一个人对某种语言掌握得不地道，红卫兵的意思若是前者，似乎言重了些。

Very interesting。。。I mean good stuff! ~whenever someone starts his or her statement by" to be honest with you..." my spontaneously mental reply is "really? so you've never been honest in your life up to this moment?"~~

"To be honest " could be a warning from the speaker that he/she is going to say something blatant or not so nice, so whatever follows could reflect the speaker's true feeling. But of course sometimes people abuse it, like any other expressions.

With all the respect to those call center customer service agents, I do notice this trend of abusing "to be honest with you..." at quite a few occasionswhen I need to talk to them. At least personally I'be on alert once I heard that statement, but for some reason the chinese version of "说老实话＂works just fine to me.

不同意。这些话很常见的，意思肯定没有文章里解释的那么rude，即使British我想心里都不会是那么rude，文章里夸张以示幽默吧。我贴出来，真是觉得大家应该用的，我觉得基本上都是客气的说no。
