工作学习 / 外语学习 / 被笑话啦～今天正在FACEBOOK上看我那貌美如花的表姑的照片，同事凑过来问我这是谁，我想都没想就回：This is my aunt.
同事表示很惊讶，因为我的Aunt实在是太年轻了。我说她是我爸爸最小的cousin，只比我大四岁。
同事笑啦，说那就是Cousin，不叫Aunt。

cousin有表兄弟姐妹、以及表亲的意思，但是aunt就是亲姑或者亲姨，还有婶子、舅妈之类的。表姑、表姨都属cousin，不属aunt。

我之前就是这么理解的呀～我觉得我表姑是我爸的妹妹（甭管是不是表的），所以我说是我aunt。他们了解了她是我爸爸的cousin之后，告诉我，她是我cousin，不是我aunt～

英语在算辈份和亲戚关系上就词穷了，不如中文了，grandfather,grandmother不知是父方的还是母方的，uncle，aunt，也不知是哪方的，管男的就是uncle,女的就是aunt,中国的嫡亲，表亲，英文表达不了哈！

没看明白～他们解释给我听了，cousin包含所有的表亲，包括表姑、表姨。所以她是我的cousin，不是我的aunt…………难道他们骗我？？

这涉及到辈份，不能直接翻译。反正英语里没有“表”、“堂”这类字眼，按照中国家庭谱系，“表姑”就相当于英语的“aunt”，但需要给不懂中国文化的人解释。
