工作学习 / 外语学习 / 苏修和朋友的对话(76 ~ 80)这一阶段,可能写的东西比较杂乱。另外这是最后一批谈话,后面没什么可写了。最后有可能我会总结一下。

这个过去时态的用法有很多,但是最重要的一个就是强调时效性,就是过去是这样,现在不是这样。绝大多数的时候其实并不是要说过去如何,而是强调现在不是这样了。举几个简单的例子,I was not happy,意思就是现在我没有不happy了,I was sick,意思就是现在我病好了,I didn't know,意思就是现在我知道了。

其实这样说就明白了。Be的过去时,绝大多数是表示现在的状态和以前不同。而其他的实义动词的过去时,则多半是表示以前发生的事情或者做过的事。

应该不是以这个为标准,不过如果用助动词的(不仅限于be),一般都是强调现在与以前不一样。

还有这里有个例子,你看看有什么区别,he do know that, he did know that.

前一个我认为是语法错误。后一个我认为是他明知故犯,应从重从快处罚。

我个人的解释,两个语法都正确,do,和 did都是强调用的。我们假设个场景:A, B, C三人,A是美帝,B是丁丁,C是那个He。A对B说 He do know that, 的意思是,B 你怎么能不知道C知道那件事呢?A对B说 He did know that 的意思是 C他是知道那件事的,他现在装糊涂。

Quite misleading. The former is simply a grammar mistake. It should read "He does know that". There is no such thing as "he do know that". Period.

In my little opinion, a sentence should first be STATED clearly before it can IMPLY properly.

同意你的说法,不过由于中文没有时态,所以中国人一般对时态都不太敏感,特别是时态暗含的强调用法,更是没有什么感念,而这个是非常总要的,如果不了解,整个句子就误解了,甚至理解反了。

就拿这个I was sick来说吧,这个句子的基本意思就是我现在病好了,没事了。而有些人就理解成你生病啦,要不要休息一下。。。

In north America, I feel the "continuous tense" (present, past, future" are often over-used.E.g. In cases like "this system used to be running on Solaris", a continuous tense is no necessary whatsoever.
On the contrarry, the use of "perfect" tense are often lacking. Perfect tense is used to decribe an action that was completed in the past, BUT that action has a CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP with another action/situation in the past/present/future. If an action does not have a causal relationship with another action, simply use simple past/present/future tense.

在多说一句。还是那句话,我这些文章里的很多句子都是我自己杜撰的,中式英文在所难免。如果大家发现了哪些句子有毛病,请指正。

W can be decomposed into "double-u" (and that is what it means too). It depends if you like to liaise the "le" and "u".Theoretically, "U" is a half-vowel, so liaison is not totally necessary. But if people tend to pronounce "u" more as a full vowel, then liaison sounds better.
I have heard both. I guess it is not a big deal. Both can sound very beautiful.

我的一些看法1. Wellesley: 如果丢音节,整个词的sound pattern就乱了,别人听不懂
2. Markham: 这个H是不发音的。很多中国人都会说错。然而,在中国人堆里,如果你正确地说“马儿克母”,而不说“马克汗母”,就象跟一桌农村人吃饭而不咂嘴,显得十分另类。
5. Richmondhill" 智者千虑,必有一失。这个地名我估计姐你记错了。应该是分开的两个词:Richmond Hill

You are right. It should be spelled as Richmond Hill. Pronunciationwise, there is only one stress on "Rich-", no stress on "Hill".

按照American Accent Training上的说法,Richmond Hill的重音是放在Hill上的。下面的链接大致也是这个观点,但给出了一些例外。
