Not really though. It takes brain milliseconds to get the meaning of a picture. Assume that I can figure out the meaning of one word in 1 millisecond, which is a very slow speed, then I should be able to comprehend 1000 words in only 1 second.Anyway, I need a little bit of extra time on figuring out the meaning of sense groups and then of the whole sentences. I believe I should be able to read at speed of 1000 words per minute with 100% comprehension. But apparently I'm far away from that.

中文或许还有希望，因为是象形，一个词组就2-4个方块，容易处理，难点处理在逻辑关系。英文可不一样，有些单词撑得很长，脑子很难反应。 一旦遇到不熟的单词，比如你主楼的“subvocalization“，速度马上就降下来了。所以要细度的话速度快不了。

You bring about a good point --- new words slow down reading speed --- which is for sure. However, it is possible to read English materials without voicing words in head.I tried reading without subvocalization, and believe it or not, it works. I can read at a very high speed (a page within one minute) while skipping new words, and what amazes me is that I can still comprehend something, maybe 30% in this case. I think I can comprehend more without sacrificing my reading-speed if I keep practicing this technique.

这就是俺第一句回的，读得快就会漏东西，比如你做阅读理解，如果问题问到细节，必须得回去细度。速读的时候你其实抓的都是关键词，不可能记住细节的。

What I'm looking forward to is not a skimming skill, which is already in my bag and I'm quite content with. What I want is to read fast with full comprehension, which I believe is possible.Say, I can read 300 words per minute, why can't I get to 400, 500, ...?

I understand what you're referring to. I can fully comprehend a long complex sentence by reading it only once, no back-and-forth reading. But I'm not happy with my reading speed (300 wpm on average), I'm training myself for a higher speed.
