“Patriotism” is a motivator, not a reason to go to the war.
US is an open society, where free speech is worshipped near a fetish. People did not lose their capability of critical-thinking; on the contrary, there were countless people who did not agree with their president. People around the world made jokes on Bush. However, it was the wish of the majority of American people that has led US to the wars against phantom enemies. At 911, there was uproar for accountabilities of the tragedy and an immediate action was demanded, because for the first time, terrorists have brought fight onto the terrain of US.
Personally, I don’t agree with those wars, but I think there were greater benefits of wars than not going into them, for those decisions were not made by Bush, but by his administration -groups of well informed experts.
I don’t believe that China will take over US as the world leader any time soon. This is a laughable wishful thinking from Chinese version of “patriotism”. I believe it when I see it, when Chinese stop moving their assets and kids to US or other industrialized countries. What people fail to see are the vitality, the creativeness and the adaptability of America. China will soon lose her economic dynamics as she is moving toward an aging society, with her own social, economic, systemic and demographic problems unseen in other countries. Therefore, in a foreseeable future, US will continue to lead, inspire and motivate people around the world.

Choppy. Incoherent. Unconvincing. Grammatical error on the last sentence.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
